Kidney Institute apaw na ng mga COVID patient

Humingi na ng tulong sa gobyerno ang National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) at sinabing hindi na sila makatatanggap pa ng mga COVID-19 patient.

Sa isang open letter, sinabi ni NKTI executive director Dr. Rose Marie Liquete na umabot na sa 100 percent occupancy ang nasabing pasilidad dahil sa kanila pumupunta ang mga dialysis patient mula ibang center.

“The emergency room remains congested. The hot zone is full. This is a call for your help to solve the situation,” aniya.

“Many government facilities have donated to different facilities, one way or another. And while NKTI has practically knocked on all doors but still, our letters, our pleas, have not been fully answered,” dagdag pa.

Bukod dito, nabahala rin ang NKTI para sa mga dialysis patient na hindi na nagagamot dahil tinataboy sila ng ibang center kapag nalamang COVID-19 positive sila, o sarado na ang dialysis facility dahil naubos na ang pondo.

Naalarma rin ang ospital para sa mga medical frontliner nito, kabilang ang 174 na COVID-19 positive.

Wika ni Rosete-Liquete, karamihan sa mga nahawa sa virus ay mga nars, nephrologist, internist, at medical technologist.

“The COVID-19 pandemic will probably remain for next 1 or 2 years. And we, the NKTI, your specialty transplant center, cannot be a breeding ground of the virus,” dagdag niya.

Samantala, nauna nang napaulat na puno na rin ng mga COVID-19 patient sa St. Luke’s Medical Center at Makati Medical Center.
